The Carousel Building

The Carousel Building in Asbury Park NJ was completed in 1932, at a time when the town was thriving as an entertainment and cultural center. Architects Charles Wetmore and Whitney Warren built several structures to draw tourists to the area. Before the Garden State Parkway and New Jersey Turnpike opened in 1951, the Palace Amusements failed to expand. The Palace Amusements building was destroyed in that time, but a local grassroots organization was able to save some of the art pieces. This building dates back to the 1910s, and served as a home for troops during World War I and II. In the past, it has been the site of lavish dances and R&B bands.
